A picturesque place – the Tamgaly Tas tract
Trips and tours to Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries provide an opportunity to visit unique nature reserves and parks, enriching your trip with impressive views of natural phenomena and formations.
This natural complex is located one hundred and seventy kilometers from the capital of Kazakhstan. Repeated archaeological excavations here have allowed us to discover a truly extraordinary sanctuary, including many drawings. Art historians and archaeologists say that this antique art gallery is a unique reflection of many eras that replaced each other in this territory.
In total, almost four thousand different drawings dating back to the Bronze Age, the period of the Turks and early nomads were discovered here. The images were placed on shale outcrops, which were distinguished by their small size. Metal stamping was used for the application. The most common images presented in the unusual gallery are:
- Hunting scenes;
- Argali;
- Goat;
- Maral deer;
- Camel;
- Horse;
- Bull;
- Sun-headed deities;
- Figures of people;
- Sacred sacrifice ceremonies, etc.
In the immediate vicinity of the gorge there is a necropolis dating back to the Bronze Age. It is believed that it was here that nomads carried out burials. Nowadays, such an unusual gallery and the surrounding necropolis are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The territory of the complex is full of various curiosities
A truly unique “Singing Dune” can be seen on the territory of the park, just by coming to the right bank of the Ili River. These mountains of sand are capable of producing sounds that many rightly compare to the playing of a real organ, however, there is no mysticism here. In relatively dry weather, the air that passes through the grains of sand electrified by friction creates a vibration that causes melodic sound vibrations. The soil itself acts as a massive resonator, reflecting and amplifying sound vibrations.
These sounds can be heard for many kilometers throughout the entire nature conservation complex. To the surprise of many experts, the “Singing Dune” remains stable, despite the weakness of the soil located underneath it. Most calculations suggest that the Singing Dune should move from place to place, however, it prefers to give its concerts on the same stage.
Lovers of a real safari will find a lot of interesting things in this park, for example, on the territory of the nature conservation complex you can meet:
- Desert gazelle;
- Argali (mountain sheep);
- Fox;
- Wolf;
- Golden eagle;
- Mountain partridge;
- Chukot;
- Bearded vulture and so on.
Many animals and birds that live on the territory of one of the largest nature reserves in Kazakhstan are listed in the domestic and international Red Book.
