South of Kosh madrasah, surrounded by residential buildings located small mosque Balyand. Itsname translates as “high”, due to high basement, where winter room with aivan installed onboth sides on wooden supports, which foreigners visit during their trip to Bukhara.
Landmark built at sixteenth century beginning. It belongs to guzar or quarterly mosques.
In the first centuries after Islam establishment, such buildings applied for both prayerperformance activities, conduct ceremonies that are associated with birth, death, holy housesinto categories ivision. So, namazgoh, idgoh, musallah were used for mass prayers on Kurban/ Ruza Hait. They built mainly outside city limits. Others used hold Friday prayers – “catholic” Juma mosques.

Building has preserved architectural form that previous century constructions have not broughtus: magnificent suspended wooden ceiling with deep caissons, central mirror system. Entire roofcovered geometric patterns, which have center forms 12-beam star. Ceiling thin carpentry kits, carvings made.
Architectural, decorative design, interiors carried out only mineral paints, specially fulfilled egg-glue solution. The following dyes used: natural ultramarine, which gave blue color; coppergreens such as malachite or chrysocolla – green red ocher mixed cinnabar – red; ocher – yellow; burnt bone – black. Paints diluted liquid apricot or cherry glue egg yolk addition solution. Painting had a velvety texture. Plants branches were depicted relatively thin, elastic stripes, leaves usually deployed. Various flowers, buds forms. Allowed great convention, stylization. Sometimes painted all basic interior elements. Wall ornament usually performed without viewbackground (if it is not kundal). Here paintings prevail cold colors range. Richest picture decorated wooden cornice, entire housetop articulations, where drawing background- greatimportance. Painting gamma room upper part made up of background colors – blue, blue, green, red. Moderate intensity paints, bright colors absent.
Glaze mosques, designed perform day cycle prayers, inextricably linked Mahal daily life. Balyand, its refined interior, gave rise tranquility feeling, avoiding subtle contemplative moods hustle, surrounding world bustle.
