MUSEUM OF AFROSIAB

Those who want to get acquainted with the history of the founding of the city can do it here. There is a museum complex in the northern part of Samarkand, not far from the central market. Historical evidence suggests that in the vicinity of the museum there are the hills of Afrosiab hillfort, destroyed by militant Mongols in the 13th century.

Each element of the richest museum fund tells about the entire history of Samarkand, since the conquest of this settlement by the famous Macedonian. Despite the abundance of various historical and cultural evidences, a special place in the general exposition is occupied by exhibits obtained as a result of numerous researches on the remains of the Afrosiab site.

Each element, found as a result of excavation, tells of an entire era in the development of the city. Tools of labor, ladies’ jewelry, numerous ancient swords and much more allowed specialists to reconstruct the separate stages of Samarkand’s life, previously considered unknown.
