Republic’s capital city situated southerly in Hissar Valley.

In earlier times there were only three villages named Dushanbe, Shah Mansur and Sari Assija. From Tajik language town name translates as Monday, which was market day within villages.

Notwithstanding that capital available for Central Asia travel quite young it has rather old history. Various archeological findings prove region ancient origin, but historical publications tell that this site was beks and emirs residence during medieval period.

During soviet era that small town with almost 280 people was part of former Uzbek republic. Later, just after independence it turns into contemporary manufacturing town inhabited about 600 thousand people and became Tajikistan main city.
