Tomb of Gumbez Manas

This place is one of those that are always surrounded by many legends. One of the legends says that the Gumbez Manasa Mausoleum was built on the resting place of the murdered Manas Semetey. Another legend says that the entire building, built on the picturesque bank of the Kenkoli, was erected on the orders of Manasa’s wife, whose name was Kanykeya. At the same time, the cunning woman, who wanted to deceive the enemies of her deceased husband, asked to write a completely different name on his tombstone.

The mausoleum is located near the famous mountain, popularly called “Observation Post”. There is also an ancient necropolis here, dating back to the first century.

The compositional center of the complex are numerous stripes containing inscriptions associated with various historical or religious aspects of life. Numerous ethnographic expeditions have been able to establish that the majority of all inscriptions were made in the “Kufic style” – numerous figures with sharp edges, created on the basis of the Arabic alphabet.

Divani is another direction in national graphics that can be found when studying these inscriptions. Today, some representatives of the scientific community are inclined to claim that some of the inscriptions have much in common with those found in other sacred places in Central Asia.
