The first mention of this state museum dates back to 1896. Attention from the state, patrons and ordinary citizens allowed this museum for many years of its existence to significantly replenish its collection. Many elements found in museum funds represent a huge historical and cultural value.
The modern historical museum is divided into 5 thematic halls representing different aspects of life in the country:
- Historical department;
- Department of Fine Arts;
- Archaeological Department;
- Exhibition department and fund department;
- Archaeological, numismatic, graphic and marketing department.
The exposition constantly replenishes
Nowadays in this museum you can find numerous artifacts that allow you to draw conclusions about the way of life of our ancestors:
- Jewelry of the Bronze Age;
- An extensive collection of different ancient coins;
- Zoroastrian ossuary;
- An extensive collection of ancient ceramic, glass and metal products;
- Cult bowls made of silver;
- Several tens of thousands of samples of national costumes;
- A lot of ancient carpets;
- Embossed knives;
- Religious objects of the 8th century;
- More than one thousand paintings belonging to well-known Uzbek artists of different ages.
Since its foundation, the historical museum was opened for visits to the Registan Square, but in 2010 the authorities decided to transfer it to the street. Ulugbek.
