Today we can safely say that the ancient Khiva complex „Ichan-Kala“ is one of the largest in the region of architectural monuments, including majority of buildings of the 19th and 20th centuries. Each building here literally carries a variety of historical artifacts associated with particular eras.
Madrasah of Yakubbay Hodja can be found in the western part of „Ichan Kala“ in the vicinity of the shrine adjoining Pakhlavan Mahmoud. The date of construction of the sacred building is considered to be 1873. The idea of building was put forward by a well-known at the time merchant Yakubboy Hodja.
If you look closely at the madrasah, you can easily notice the geometric features of its structure – a rectangle, one corner of which stands in a westerly direction. The entrance composition is crowned by a domed room peculiar to such buildings. From the room you can get into the courtyard, passing through an arched door to do this.
On the northeast side of the madrasah there is a small domed mosque, built of brick. The doors are made of solid wood, decorated with luxurious Khiva carved patterns..
