The Museum of Arts of Azerbaijan is the largest museum in the country, in which there are about 17 thousand works of art. He is surely included in the program of a decent tour of Azerbaijan. The museum received its name in honor of the theatrical painter of those times – Rustam Mustafayev. Nowadays the museum is located on the territory of two city buildings, built in the 19th century. Tour operators of Azerbaijan advise its true connoisseurs of art.

Initially, the museum was located in the department of the State Museum, but by the mid-thirties of the last century the number of exhibits had grown so much that it was decided to allocate a separate building for it. For a long time, the museum moved from one old building to another, having visited the museum of literature Nizami, but by the middle of the last century he was finally found a separate place, it was Debur’s mansion. In 2013, an additional building was opened nearby. This unique complex is located, comparable to the museum islands, which can be seen on holiday in Uzbekistan or in Europe, near the famous hotels of Azerbaijan.

In the museum there are more than 60 rooms, in which there are 3 thousand exhibits. Halls are allocated for each specific culture, for example, for the works of European artists, highlighted the first building, represented by seven halls. Corps number 2 is fully dedicated to the art of Azerbaijan. For the work of Russian artists, there are as many as 10 halls. In addition to paintings, the museum exhibits many carpets of various countries.

Among the art of the ancient and middle centuries of Azerbaijan, you can see various figurines, most of which date back to the 3rd century BC, as well as various dishes from all over the country. One of the halls is allotted for the works of Sattar Bahludzade, the famous landscape painter. There are halls that are dedicated to French artists and sculptures, for example, Benjamin Constant, who is the author of a portrait of the Russian Empress, the wife of Nicholas 2, Alexandra Feodorovna.

The building, in which he found his long-awaited fiefdom museum, was erected in the late nineteenth century, namely in 1893. The architect appointed Nikolay von der Nonne. The facade of Debour Palace looks at the sea. This is the only mansion in Baku that rises above the rest of the flat construction of the city. In the 90s they were going to evict the museum, but the president of the country together with the people of „art“ defended the right of the museum to be in the territory of this beautiful mansion.
